Like all across the world, organisations in the UK have faced unprecedented challenges in light of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is not surprising to find that over the last 12 months organisations have had to adapt their ways of working. 

In our recent survey, published in our Productivity Puzzle Whitepaper, respondents stated that over 48% of organisations have now moved to hybrid-remote working model, with a further 26% seeking new cost saving efficiencies. The concept of remote working has been commonplace as attitudes and behaviours have changed, yet, as stated by Microsoft CEO Satya Natalla, “we have seen two years of digital transformation in two months….” 

 With this fast adoption of digital change and a complete change to the world of work, it is no surprise therefore that the biggest challenges organisations have seen correlates to remote working, downsizing offices and sourcing new cost savings. 

Interestingly, the most challenges were from remote working itself, with 17% stating that they also saw a downturn in productivity across the workforce. This differs from what we have seen at Reed, as across the Group we have seen a marked increase in productivity within our workforce. 

While it is widely known as a modern way of working in the present, is the hybrid approach the future of work? Here’s why we consider the hybrid work model can mark a positive and long-lasting change in your workforce:

    Whilst the survey respondents indicated that productivity had suffered throughout the pandemic, we’re inclined to believe that this is likely due to the challenges they had in not having the right tools in place to support such a move. 

Several studies over the past few months show productivity while working remotely from home is better than working in an office setting. On average, those who work from home spend 10 minutes less a day being unproductive, work one more day a week, and are 47% more productive. This significant increase in productivity has also been reflected across the Reed group.
